August’s father, August Grand Sr., and two brothers came to the USA from France in the late 1800’s and settled in the Julian area where they acquired significant land holdings. August Sr. married Bernardine Osuna who was of native Indian and Spanish derivation. She was a close relative of Juan Osuna to whom the Spanish governement had granted Racho Dieguito which emcompassed all of Rancho Santa Fe.
